First 10 of the competition with a breathtaking wave.

The 8th edition of the Lanzarote Quemao Class has started in a morning where conditions, waves and the incredible level of all competitors have left unforgettable images in our minds.

Hawaiian Mike Stewart has stood out. “There aren’t many places in the world where the conditions line up in such a way that offers such a technical type of wave like this, and this is really one of those places. With the right tide and the right wind, everything lines up. This is a really unique place in the world, and it’s one that I’ve always wanted to come to and have the opportunity to compete. This wave is very similar to what I’m used to in Hawaii, which is the Pipeline wave. It might be a little smaller, but the conditions and characteristics of this wave are much better,” noted the G.O.A.T. of bodyboarding.

Amaury Lavernhe, a 3x winner of this event, got the first 10 points of the morning with a spectacular wave. “It’s been incredible, to be able to compete like this with these waves, surrounded by people, is something exceptional. With this event, surfing and bodyboarding together, we are very happy. I feel very comfortable on this wave”, said the former world champ from the Reunion Island.

The last series of bodyboarding qualified for the quarterfinals the Frenchman Ethan Capdeville and the Gran Canarian William Lujan. It was the Frenchman who advanced in first place: “Very happy to have won my heat, the waves today have been incredible. All the competitors are at a very high level, but I was able to catch two very good waves”.

Local bodyboarder Pablo Lecouey and Javier Rojas from Tenerife also stood out. “This wave is magnificent, there is a lot of competition and a very high level in the water. You have to be in the right place at the right time to catch the best waves,” said Rojas.

The action continues tomorrow at 8:00AM.
