Brazilian Guilherme Montenegro locked in a career milestone, capturing his first IBC World Tour title after defeating local prodigy Jesus Mendoza in the Final.
The wave size remained in the 3-to-4-foot range on Finals Day, and the early rounds delivered pure drama, highlighted by the Mendoza brothers, Junior and Jesus, who found themselves matched up together in a high-stakes, three-man heat in Round 5. Demonstrating exceptional heat management, both Peruvian brothers advanced together into the Quarterfinals to keep their Grand Final qualification dreams alive.
As the Final came, Gui Montenegro faced local favorite Jesus Mendoza. The Brazilian seized control early, finding the best wave walls to construct a winning heat total and secure his milestone first career win on the IBC World Tour.
“I am very happy. Ever since I arrived, I’ve been saying that I came here to win,” said the young shredder from Brazil. “In difficult waves, I surfed well against a tough opponent, and now we are heading to Fronton!”
With the completion of the Punta Negra Junior Pro, stop 4 of the Junior Men, on July 4th, the direct qualification pathway for the Gran Canaria Fronton King Grand Final in October is officially set. The top four spots were locked in by the event’s semifinalists: Guilherme Montenegro (Brazil), Jesus Mendoza (Peru), Waldo Palacios (Chile), and Lucciano Campos (Peru), who had already qualified via his victory at the Morocco Pro.
The remaining two qualification spots were awarded to the highest-scoring quarter finalists of the event: Kaleb Zagarra and Junior Mendoza, both from Peru.
