Recently Miguel Coelho, António Saraiva and Stephanos Kokorelis embarked on a journey to what is truly known as a bodyboarder’s paradise – Watu Karung on the beautiful island of Java, Indonesia.

As many people know, the waves at Watu Karung are perfect for bodyboarding. It is a magical and very accessible place, where the lifestyle is exclusively about eating, surfing, walking in nature and sleeping.
The site has two very consistent waves confined to a small bay that is located just two minutes walk from our accommodation.
The trip itself came about as part of recording a section for the upcoming bodyboard film Above the Movie (@above.themovie), directed by Sebastien Boulard, which will be premiered next November with the aim of competing for Surf at Lisbon Festival (SAL).
In this particular section you will be able to watch the action of our golden boy, Stephanos Kokorelis, who recently launched his signature model “Koned” by Pride Bodyboards, but also the skills of the talented António “Bodecas” Saraiva and myself, of course.
The three of us had a lot of fun in a healthy rivalry in the line up in which we made incredible waves that will certainly remain in our memories for a long time.
The trip turn out to be even more special by the group of Portuguese fellows that joined us, with Luís Agostinho, Pedro Meira and Pedro “Joca” Ferreira, also coinciding with the presence of several Australian friends which made the vibe even better with many Bintangs, laughs and silliness in between.
From great waves, to the experience of a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in the middle of the night and a few rescues that we had to do at sea, this was, without a doubt, a trip that made an impact on all of us.

PT // Recentemente embarcámos numa viagem ao que é autenticamente conhecido como sendo o paraíso dos bodyboarders – Watu Karung na ilha de Java, Indonésia.
Como muita gente sabe e já viu imagens deste sítio, as ondas são completamente perfeitas para a prática de bodyboard. Trata-se de um lugar mágico e muito acessível, onde o lifestyle passa unicamente por comer, surfar, passear na natureza e dormir.
O local possui duas ondas muito consistentes confinadas a uma pequena baía que está situada a apenas dois minutos a pé do nosso alojamento.
A viagem em si surgiu no âmbito de gravar uma secção para o novo filme de bodyboard Above the Movie (@above.themovie), de Sebastien Boulard, que será estreado ainda em novembro deste ano com o objetivo de concorrer ao Surf at Lisbon Festival (SAL).
Nesta secção vão poder contar com a ação do nosso menino de ouro, Stephanos Kokorelis, que lançou recentemente o seu modelo de prancha assinado “Koned” da Pride Bodyboards, mas também do talentoso António “Bodecas” Saraiva e comigo próprio, claro.
Divertimo-nos muito os três numa picardia saudável no line up em que fizemos ondas incríveis que, certamente, vão ficar nas nossas memórias durante muito tempo.
A viagem foi ainda mais especial pelo grupo de bodyboarders portugueses que se formou para além de nós, com Luís Agostinho, Pedro Meira e Pedro “Joca” Ferreira, coincidindo também com a presença de vários australianos amigos o que tornou a vibe ainda melhor com muitas Bintangs, risadas e parvoíces pelo meio.
Desde altas ondas, à experiência de um terramoto de magnitude 6.0 a meio da noite e de uns quantos salvamentos que tivemos de fazer no mar, esta foi, sem dúvida, uma viagem que nos marcou.
