The 2023 World Champion made a statement.
Amaury Lavernhe, PLC, Uri Valadão, Maxime Castillo, Dave Hubbard, and Tristan Roberts are some of the well known names competing in the Taghazout Bay World Bodyboard Championship, the opening stop of the IBC World Tour.
However, as you may have already noticed, there’s one person missing – the world champion Tanner McDaniel. The 24 years old Hawaiian thus became another weight loss, after the departure of Iain Campbell last January and Isabela Sousa last year.
According to Tanner, the decision was well digested and based on what was the best for him:
“I would like to clarify that I had nearly made up my mind about this decision halfway through the 2023 season, and the past few months have really solidified it. I have decided that I will be taking the 2024 season off from competing on the World Tour. I’ve come to this decision through months of consideration and thought. I won’t go too far into details here, but I know this is the correct decision for me.”
Wise words from the champ, but as we all know, the Flopos X-files and the unpaid prize money situation has to do with this and had a great influence on the decision. Wanna bet?
“I’m really looking forward to what I will be getting up to in place of competing this year and I’m really excited to share some cool projects and content with you all”, add Tanner to finish his unexpected statement.
One less face attending on the world tour, and that makes it less interesting to follow. To compete on the entire world tour costs a lot of bucks and the truth is the athletes seem to have less and less support from the bodyboarding industry. If they have the enough support this will never happen.
Good luck on your off season, T!
