The 26th Annual Pa’ia Bay Beachfest on hand.

Kai Lenny, 31 years old, is a true waterman. The Hawaiian is a professional big wave surfer, stand-up paddle surfer and racer, shortboard surfer, tow-in surfer, windsurfer, kitesurfer, wing foiler and more. You name it. Lenny lives on Maui and Paia Bay is his home.

So it makes all sense every time he supports PYCC Maui, a local organization, and specifically one of their latest events – the 26th Annual Pa’ia Bay Beachfest Presented by Kai Lenny and Positively+KAI with Marlon Tumacder, held during the weekend (January 20th-21st), a fun and family-friendly showcase for Maui’s young bodyboarders and surfers to boast their style, tricks, and barrel-riding aptitude (11 divisions).

Beachfest also features special guests, MC’s, and judges during the two days of competitive wave-riding, like for example the multi dropknee world champion Dave Hubbard and North Shore icon Kainoa McGee. The waves were not too big during the weekend, but the fun amongst the kids were on high levels.

Proving he is a true waterman, despite being yet recovering from a concussion held in early January, during the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout at Pipe, Kai Lenny entered the contest by competing on the Pro-Am Bodyboarding division. He placed second on his first heat and make it to the quarter finals where he was stopped by his opponents. According to the Hawaiian, It’s the first bodyboard heat since he was a kid and he was totally surprised by advancing one round. More words from the man on the video below.

In terms of final results, Mack Crilley was the Pro-Am winner, Cody Mailou-Kauai come in first in the Dropknee division, and Kelea Molale-Gonzales won the Open Ladies. Sweet! xxx
