The 2024 world title tie break heat was run a few moments ago.
Luna Hardman (top and bottom pics), from Brazil, age 18, is the new Junior Women World Champion, conquering the 2024 World Title and saying goodbye to the Junior Division in the best way possible – and succeeding Hawaiian Aarya Tabalno in the throne who have won last year.
The Brazilian is the daughter of the well-known Neymara Carvalho, 5x world champion, finished the regular season with the same points as Luana Dourado and needed it to compete an extra Heat (SuperHeat, surf off, a tie break) to conquer the second Pro Junior title of the career (the first was in 2022).
In this extra Heat, Luna beat the talented Portuguese youngster Luana Dourado (above), of only 14 years old and the winner of the division in Antofagasta event, with a total score of 11,75 points versus 9,05 points.
The Portuguese girl was close, very close to winning, but in the end finished world Pro Junior vice champion for the second year in a row. Although the future is bright and predicts more good results for the Portuguese shredder.
It was a day full of emotions as moments before the SuperHeat, during Luna’s heat of the Pro Womens round 6, where the Brazilian secured her passport to the quarter-finals, the South American hit the La Cupula reef with her head, forcing the forehead to be sutured with a few stitches. Ouch!
The competition of the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival continues until Sunday at Playa Llacolén, Chile. Stay tuned for more. xxx
