The new mold focused on comfort and performance. 100% Malaysian natural rubber.
The bodyboarding world has been waiting for this one. For months, Churchill’s Malaysian rubber Makapuu fins have been riders’ most anticipated comeback and the fins are finally in the water. The early verdict from the riders who’ve put them through their paces: worth every minute of the wait. Check out some riders’ reviews here and here. Churchill has moved production to Malaysia and rebuilt the Makapuu from the mold out, with a comfort-first redesign and 100% premium natural Malaysian rubber underfoot.
The material: Malaysian natural rubber
It’s the material the sport grew up on: alive in the water, soft against the skin, snapping back kick after kick in a way no synthetic quite matches. Malaysia has grown some of the world’s most prized natural rubber for generations, and the 2026 Makapuu is built from 100% of it. Premium grade, chosen for the way it flexes for comfort, holds its power, and molds to your foot until the fin feels like part of you.
The redesign
Every change started at the points where the fin meets the foot. The 2026 Makapuu carries rounded heel-strap edges, a smoothed drainage-hole underside, and a softer natural foot pocket that together put an end to the rubbing and chafing of long sessions. Blade lengths are now proportional to each size, so flex and control stay balanced whether you ride an S or an XL, and a cleaner, more uniform blade edge finishes the new mold. A redesigned, reduced-diameter drainage hole keeps toes from snagging in heavy surf.
The new mold runs across the Makapuu line.

Underneath it all, the signature Dolphin Tail split blade does what it always has, channeling water for more thrust per kick, faster wave entry, and a stronger hold with less leg fatigue on long paddles.
Brand’s Anniversary
The timing is no accident. Churchill turns 90 this year, nine decades on from Owen Churchill’s original 1936 design, and two editions mark the occasion alongside the move to Malaysia. The 90th Anniversary Edition is a limited run of 900 individually numbered pairs in black-and-gold marble, a collector’s piece for the milestone. The Seafoam Jade brings back a reimagined classic riders have been asking about for months. Both are made in Malaysia with 100% natural rubber and the new comfort mold.
Churchill fins remain standard kit across bodyboarding, bodysurfing, lifeguarding, and open-water swimming. Team riders include Pierre-Louis Costes, Amaury Lavernhe, and Iain Campbell.
