The Brazilian said goodbye on social media.
The 5x women’s world champion Isabela Sousa posted on Instagram that will not be competing on the world tour for the remaining 2023 season. The main reason relates to a dispute with the International Bodyboarding Corporation (IBC) technical department.
For the Brazilian bodyboarder, the world tour doesn’t have good waves anymore for the women – such as Arica, Itacoatiara or Frontón. “And on the existing events there seems to be a conflict with the women’s
division, regarding the priority to compete in the best conditions. A good example is the Antofagasta stop in the last two years”, she explains.
Isabela added to that thought that she doesn’t see the global organization of the sport aiming for the best conditions for the ladies.
Of course, this brought personal consequences and that’s why she doesn’t see “a purpose anymore in competing in events sanctioned by the IBC”.
The world champion, who seems to be spending a season in the Canary Islands, after living between Portugal and Brazil in the past years, is now more focused shredding on free surfing and on collecting footage for upcoming clips and social media content.

Competitive bodyboarding loses one of its best athletes and main figures on the circuit, holder of five world titles. Regardless of the reasons, it’s just sad to hear that. xxx
