Jerome ‘Buzz’ Morasca, age 74, passed away in late-December 2024. Very few from the young gen seem to know the man which reveals a worrying lack of culture in our sport.

Buzz started his business (Toobs Bodyboards) with good friend Ben Steelhead in 1988 in Morro Bay, California. Soon they revolutionised the bodyboard construction process – you might have heard of the Buzz Laminator Tech.

You see, Buzz is one of the most influential members of the bodyboarding world.

He created the technology and construction practices that allowed bodyboards to evolve from flex to high-end and to the high quality boards of today.

Literally, every bodyboarding factory in the world uses the technology, the manufacturing and process techniques mastered by Buzz.

He just paid attention to details and pioneered a better way to build bodyboards. Buzz’s legacy and contributions to the sport of bodyboarding will forever shine bright in the culture of craftsmanship, art, and creativity. Most importantly, quality over quantity.

A paddle out honoring the memory of Buzz Morasca is set for Saturday, February 22nd on the South Side of Morro Rock.

So long, farewell.
