The Surf Park with a wave pool will be in Óbidos, integrated in the center of the surfing area between Ericeira and Nazaré, Portugal.
After the revelation of Surf City Lisbon, late November, a complex that is planned for Seixal (read more here), the month of December unveils a new artificial wave project for Portugal – named Surfers Cove.
According to the press release, Surfers Cove will build a Surfing theme park, with a 4-star tourist village in Óbidos, with a total investment of more than 30 million euros and will have a maximum of 144 beds. The company’s reference shareholders are Menlo Capital, Despomar, Alaïa Bay, Admar, other shareholders and the Management Team.
For Manuel Vasconcelos, from Surfers Cove and owner of the land, “the project will be implemented in an area of 5 hectares and the tourist village will have 56 accommodation units, a restaurant, a surf shop, several skate parks, paddle tennis courts and beach tennis, a surf school, a wellness space, landscaped green areas, a bicycle track, and an area for corporate events.”
Under licensing terms, the architectural project has already been approved by the Óbidos City Council and the Portuguese Tourism office, and the remaining phases of the process are underway. Construction will begin in 2024, with the a soft opening scheduled for December 2025 and the public opening in March 2026.
The preferred technology for the Surf Park is from the world leader in the sector, Wavegarden, already tested and installed in countries such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, Brazil and South Korea, allowing for a greater variety of waves. The layout chosen for the format of the Surf Park pool will be a new compact version, and more efficient in terms of energy and water consumption.
From no wave pool, in less than two weeks Portugal now has two facilities projects that aim to operate, essentially, in the tourism sector.

Depois da revelação de Surf City Lisbon, em novembro, complexo que está previsto para o Seixal (ler mais aqui), eis que o mês de dezembro revelou um novo projeto de ondas artificiais para Portugal – Surfers Cove.
De acordo com o comunicado, Surfers Cove vai construir um parque temático para Surf, com um aldeamento turístico de 4 estrelas em Óbidos, com um investimento total superior a 30 milhões de euros que terá o máximo de 144 camas. A empresa tem como acionistas de referência, a Menlo Capital, a Despomar, a Alaïa Bay, a Admar, outros acionistas e a Equipa de Gestão.
Para Manuel Vasconcelos, da Surfers Cove e proprietário do terreno, “o projeto será implementado numa área de 5 hectares e o aldeamento Turístico terá, 56 unidades de alojamento, um restaurante, uma loja de surf, vários skate parques, courts de padel e de beach ténis, uma escola de Surf, um espaço de wellness, zonas verdes ajardinadas, pista de bicicletas, e zona para eventos corporativos”.
Em termos de licenciamento, o projeto de arquitetura já foi aprovado pela Câmara Municipal de Óbidos e pelo Turismo de Portugal, encontrando-se a decorrer as restantes fases do processo. O início da construção será já em 2024, sendo que em dezembro de 2025 dar-se-á lugar a uma “soft opening” seguida da grande abertura ao público em Março de 2026.
A tecnologia preferida para as ondas do Surf Parque pertence ao líder mundial do sector a Wavegarden, já testada e instalada em países como o Reino Unido, a Suíça, a Austrália, o Brasil e a Coreia do Sul, permite a maior variedade de ondas. O layout escolhido para o formato da piscina do Surf Parque será a nova versão compacta, e mais eficiente em termos energéticos e de consumo de água.
De nenhuma piscina de ondas, em menos de duas semanas Portugal passa para dois projetos que visam operar, essencialmente, na área do turismo. xxx
