Neymara Carvalho, 5x World champion and 10x Brazilian champion, says she wants to compete until she is 50 years old.
The charismatic Brazilian bodyboarder, age 48, originally from Espírito Santo, interviewed by A Tribuna, unveiled that she wants to compete two more years on a professional level and on the world tour, until age 50. A thought she had already shared with Vert Magazine during the Sintra Pro Fest.
“In my mind, 50 will be a beautiful age to retire. I feel great, both mentally and physically, and I’ve been watching my daughter path her way in the sport”, she said.
Nowadays, Ney feels she is taking her career to new unexplored steps in terms of high-performance bodyboarding. “I feel I have what it takes for another world title.”
Year 2003, however, according to her, was probably the best of her career. She was 27 years old at the time and became victorous in all fronts – World Tour, European Tour, and Brazil’s local tour.
Neymara, known for a versatile style, also enlightened a few local Brazilian young talents during the interview, such as Luna Hardman (her daughter), Bianca Simões, and Isa Vidal, who are determined and coming hungry for victories. But old friends like “Karla Costa, Stephanie Pettersen, Mariana Nogueira, or Daniela Freitas were the top references and the best to watch” when she started bodyboarding.
Regarding the future, Ney shares with the fans she has been trying and experimenting new areas lately, such as event planning and organization. As you all know she organizes the ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro, an official world tour stop in Espírito Santo since 2022, but she leave it in the air that she may want to expand or organize more events in another areas of Brazil.
Let us finish the article saying that Mike Stewart, 11 years older than the South America icon, still competes here and there. Why shouldn’t Ney do it too?
