Last week the Pride Bodyboards team informed us of The Young & the Restless #2 return/launch. According to them, “it’s time to give back some love to the community.”

Directed by legend Sebastien Boulard, the YATR #2 will be available online FOR EVERYBODY on Christmas Day, December 25th at 5:00 PM French time, with premieres occurring earlier that date in different time zones of the globe such as Bodyboard Center (BC+) in Carcavelos – Portugal (December 13th 6:30 PM), BC+ Hossegor – France (December 19h 7:00PM), Piano B Craft Bar in Livorno – Italy (December 19th 8:00PM), Beach Burrito Co in Australia (December 20th to be confirmed), and South Africa (date to be confirmed).

Movie stars include 2x world champion Tristan Roberts, from South Africa, but also French new blood Ethan Capdeville, Portuguese wave hunter Steph Kokorelis, Aussie stylish Liam Lucas, and South American flying saucer the Chilean Matías Diaz – along with appearances from Pedrim Correia and Miguel Coelho, both from Portugal, South African Robbie Berman, and French young gun Mael Martinez.

“The boys were absolutely ripping, and they pushed me a lot to perform better” – Ethan

The feedback we got on the trip to get the footage was 100% incredible. “I’m so happy to have shared this journey with this amazing crew. The boys were absolutely ripping, and they pushed me a lot to perform better. I had such a great time with them although the forecast was not the best”, starts by saying Ethan Capdeville.

That’s when Seb decided to change plans and head to another spot somewhere in Europe where the forecast looked more promising – a place only a few people have seen or know about. “We spent the first day scouting the waves all around the island, as none of us had ever been there before. Unfortunately, everything looked really bad. I was even convinced we had made the wrong call. But then, like magic, everything came together. We scored six hours of perfect waves every day for four consecutive days – with just us in the water! We ended the trip on a high note with something completely new, and I’m so proud to have been a part of it”, admits the young French talent.

For the Aussie stylemaster, Liam Lucas, it was super fun to be a part of the project. “Even though I wasn’t able to get a single session in the European section (due to injury), I still had fun out Aussie Pipe in the Australia section. It definitely hurt that I wasn’t in the entire film”, he says.

Steph Kokorelis, who just conquered the cover of the new book ‘Portugal Rocks’, said that being a part of the movie was fun, a lot of fun: “Was great to be travelling around Europe for almost one month with the best bodyboarders in the world! nowadays!” You see, instead of being a “work trip” it was more like a “family and friends trip”. The Portuguese adds: “I’m glad to have a good relationship with everyone involved. Makes it way more enjoyable and easy to manage certain decisions and logistics in a trip like this where we have to be constantly looking at swells, winds, tides to make sure we were chasing the right waves. Here and there I had to share a room with someone and I’ve to apologize for all the loud nights of snoring (laughs). They even sent me out of the apartment a few nights to sleep in a camper van! Ah ah ah!”

“(…) this was a huge opportunity for me to show everyone my potencial and also spend time with the team” – Matías

Being involved with such an iconic cast was an amazing and unique experience for Matías Diaz. “I’ve never been on a Pride team trip before, so this was a huge opportunity for me to show everyone my potencial and also spend time with the team and learn more from all the boys”, says the Chilean who highlights an air rotation made in Nazaré as his top move of the trip. “My air reverse in Nazaré was my best maneuver, because it was big and clean, but also because on that day the group was not really motivated as the sandbar was weird. I started by filming all the boys, and a few minutes later I recorded the invert-to-reverse of Pierre and a perfect air reverse of Maxime, then I decided to go out and caught two really good waves. The boys were watching from the beach and started to scream, that was a really good energy and made me do that trick!”

With less and less media in bodyboarding, giving exposure to the sport it’s not easy, but Tristan Roberts goes a little further and explains the importance of bodyboarding movies: “I guess bodyboarding videos and movies are the biggest influence in our sport. Having something to sit back and watch after a day of work or to get you amped to surf is really important. Our sport needs more of it and I’m stoked that Pride encourages that.”

All of these riders are on a top level and to elect the best one of the trip it’s not a task for anyone. For Matías, “It’s difficult just choosing one mate because everybody was ripping.” But, in his humble opinion, “Tristan was the best rider on the trip, not just because of his performance in the waves but also for his mentality to push to surf in every condition no matter what.”

The Aussie cat, Liam, says “All riders impressed me on the trip, but I hadn’t done a trip with Ethan before. He has really grown into a great rider and person. I’m looking forward to spending some more time with him in the future on some upcoming projects.”

“(…) he is a top 3 bodyboarder in the world and he will get a world championship title pretty soon!” – Steph

Koko agrees and also enlights Ethan’s performance. “I remember watching him surfing when he was younger and he was already really good. Great style and really technical, but nowadays he mixed all of this with consistency. Small, big, sand, reef, lefts or rights, he was ripping! In my humble opinion, he is a top 3 bodyboarder in the world and he will get a world championship title pretty soon!”, he comments.

On other hand, the whole vibe of the crew and the searching was top notch for Jammie. “I was really just impressed with our young talented team who are pushing the level as hard as possible. It’s so great to be a part of it. When people watch this video, I think they are going to be really impressed with the level of riding”, addresses the 2x bodyboarding world champion.

To finish the conversation and the YATR #2 behind the scenes compilation, Ethan wanted to have a last word and does a sort of epilogue: “I really think people will enjoy the movie. Seb made a really cool edit and added some new stuff to create something special!”

Well, the festive season is taking place so the family affairs. Do yourself a favour and just mark it on your calendar to watch it on Christmas Day. See you there!
